If you are going to a toga party or just want to be prepared in case you need to improvise some clothing you will want to know how to tie a toga around yourself. This video will instruct on two ways you can tie a toga for men or for women.

Step1

First, you will want to go to a fabric store and pick out what works for you as far as design/pattern goes.

Step 2

Once you've chosen your fabric, a good rule of hand is to get 4 yards if you're on the shorter side, 5 yards if you're average and 6 yards if you're tall. If you're short and you want more draping, you can go ahead and get 5-6 yards.

Step 3

Now that you've purchased your fabric, the best thing to do is to fold over all the edges of the fabric and sew them. You can do this by hand, but a sewing machine would obviously be a quicker method. This will prevent fraying at the edges of your fabric and will help to achieve a more polished toga look.

Step 4

After sewing, wrap the fabric around your body at least one and a half times. You can then throw the rest of the fabric over your shoulder and to the back of you're body where you will then want to clip it/safety pin it (or any other method if you've got one that works better). This is how you make your basic toga.

Step 5

Now that you've got your basic toga completed, you can do lots of things to accessorize. The most common thing to do for women is belt the toga at the waste with a decorative rope. Metallic accessories work best with togas, since the premise behind them is Greek. You can also take another piece of fabric of a different color/style and drape it across your body and on your other shoulder (an example of this is in the picture to the left, you can make the look your own).
