Apr 21, 2011 07:53 AM

Chic as you are, you skip a traditional wedding and are planning a destination wedding instead. You are stressful as well as exited since your decision asks for more consideration and preparation. Among many things you must think over and settle on, suitable destination wedding dress comes first. Location dictates your choice. Beach, mountains, city, country…… Wherever you go, match your wedding dress with the climate, trends and atmosphere of your destination.

Warm Climate

It’s fantastic to have a wedding on the beach or on an island like Maldives and New Zealand. You can make a vow in the bright sunshine, under the pure blue sky, with waves happily murmuring beside you. Since beach weddings or island weddings are always about a tropical theme, you should avoid heavy gowns. There is an array of styles for you, from truly elegant full length to romantic tea length, from A-line to mermaid. Just stay away from ball gown which burdens you when moving. Choose a dress without a long train, a heavy crinoline or petticoat. Stick to lightweight fabrics like chiffon, crepe, organza, rayon and silk which allow your skin to breathe in the hot weather. You can experience a sarong or a Hawaiian holoku for a casual beach wedding dress. Prefer a pair of beautiful sandals to high heels and you will walk around comfortably. When it comes to headwear, a flower in full bloom in your hair adds an elegant and stunning touch to your ensemble.

Cold Climate

If you want a wedding in snowy mountains or North European places like dreamy Norway or mysterious Finland, you need to pay special attention to your wedding dresses. The equally important thing next to beauty is to keep warm. Take bridal wraps or cloaks. They evoke a feeling of nobility and elegance and make you look like a queen on your big day.

Grand Places

Many girls dream of getting married in a castle like a princess of fairytale while others want a dressy and modern downtown wedding. No matter which one do you prefer, it’s quite formal with an upscale atmosphere. Put on trendy or stylish dresses to match the high class mood of these venues. Floor length A-line dress with ruffles and applique produce a refined and luxurious look.

Casual Places

You may want a simple wedding and fully enjoy the time spending with your beloved, then take a cruise ship wedding or a country wedding. You can choose a less formal wedding dress for these occasions. White and navy blue colored A-line or sheath is suitable for a sailor-themed cruise wedding. Remember to wear a wedding dress which makes you easy to move on deck or bring shoes that will be comfortable to walk in grassy country areas. You’d better take a bolero in case of the coldness of splashing sea water or dewdrops in the countryside.

Something Else to Remember

Prepare a little emergency kit with needles and threads. You won’t be at a loss for a button drop or an accidental tear on your precious wedding dress.

Bring a travel iron if permitted. You yourself can handle it when the wedding dress becomes wrinkled in transmit.

Package your dress in a good garment bag and put in a carry-on suitcase with you on the airplane. You can take good care of your dress by yourself but not worry about losing it when travelling.
