How to Do With Your Dress After Prom

May 10, 2011 06:02 AM

Each girl is dreaming of a fabulous prom dress. While most of them are wondering what to wear to a prom night, have you even considered what would you do with your dress after prom?

Clean your dress

No matter what you do with your dress after prom, there’s something need to be done firstly.

Have your dress professionally cleaned once the prom night is finished. It will be more difficult to remove the dirt over your dress as time goes by. Make sure the beading and crystals can survive the cleaning.

Store your memory

Most girls cost an arm and a leg on their prom dresses. After prom, they intend to have their dresses dry-cleaned and preserve well in their closet. Many years later, when they see the dresses, they see their youthful memories as well. Isn’t it sweet? How to preserve your dress? You need to fold the cleaned dress and wrap it with acid-free tissue paper which will prevent your dress from being creased. Then put your dress in an acid-free box and keep it in a cool and dry place. Remember not to wrap your dress in plastic since it will ruin your gown.

Alteration

If your prom dress is not so promy and you are good at tailoring, you may alter it into another special occasion dress. Shorten the hem or remove the extra embellishments, then you’ll get a new dress for your next party. If you do not know how to sew, hire a seamstress and have your dress altered.

Sell your dress

You might find your closet too crowded to allow even only one more dress. To make enough room, some girls decide to sell their old prom dresses online. You can sell your dress on eBay or Craigslist.

Donate to charity

Donating your prom dress to charity organizations is an ideal choice to do good things and recycle your dress.

Make meaningful pieces out of your dress

If your prom dress is too promy, why not change it into several creative things such as:

Beautiful pillows

The fabric of prom dress is usually good. You may use it to sew decorative pillows.

A quilt

Cut the dress into patches and sew them together. Your unique quilt is done.

Decorate a window

Make a small window drape out of your prom dress.

Retool it as a costume

Make it a Halloween costume for your nephews or sisters.
